Jeanne Cooper of the San Francisco Chronicle writes, “High-rise hotels are thankfully few and far between on Lake Tahoe’s north shore, but even without the pressure of competition, 2 1/2 years ago, the Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe in Incline Village staked about $60 million on renovations that aimed for a “1920s Grand Lodge” feel and added a 20,000-square-foot spa, among other amenities. The fruits of that labor (if not its slot machines) are still paying off. Summer weekends are frequently sold out as families, corporate groups and wedding parties gambol on its across-the-road beach by day and gamble in its casino by night. “
